Solutions to Problems That Save You $$$$$

Why do a home energy audit? There are numerous reasons why your house needs an energy audit. Most existing homes have one or more of these problems.

Health and Safety

Problem
CO and natural gas and propane leaks are silent killers in homes. Most homes have sources of gas and CO that need to be tested to ensure the safety of everyone in the home

Solution
An Energy Auditor inspects your home for proper CO levels to determine if there are any gas leaks. Using a CO detector, we make an assessment of the amount of CO in your home. We look at your CO detectors and recommend placement and number that should be installed in your home. We also look at your smoke alarms and make recommendations for installation and positioning.

Costly Utility Bills

Problem
Costly utility bills can often be linked to air leaks in your home's envelope caused by insufficient or poorly installed insulation, holes that allow drafting of heat, poor windows, improper or inefficient heating and cooling equipment, or poorly sealed and insulated ducts.

Solution
Using the blower door test and infrared camera, we'll find the leaks that are causing air infiltration and make recommendations for proper air sealing.

We'll inspect current insulation and make recommendations based on the correct R-value necessary to reduce energy consumption.

We'll perform Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) safety test and make recommendations using BPI recommendation standards.

Poor Indoor Air Quality

Problem
Mold and mildew can cause wood rot, structural damage, peeling paint, and a variety of health problems. A damp basement is commonly caused by moisture migrating through the foundation. As this moisture evaporates, it increases indoor humidity and can promote the growth of mold — resulting in an uncomfortable house.

Solution
We'll inspect for mold and mildews and make recommendation to have proper air and moister barriers installed

Cold Floors and Drafty Rooms

Problem
Cold floors and drafty rooms can be attributed to insufficient insulation or air infiltration. Cold air coming into or going out of your house, especially through leaks hidden in the attic and basement, can cause rooms to feel drafty and uncomfortable.

Solution
We'll perform a blower door test and infra-red camera finding the leaks that are causing air infiltration and make recommendations for proper air sealing.

We'll inspect current insulation and make recommendations for proper R-value insulation.

Windows

Problem
Air infiltration around windows can result in condensation, frost or pools of water on windows and sills.

Solution
While replacement of window is extremely costly with low saving on investment return single pane or damaged window should be replaced to stop heat loss through the windows.

Ice Dams

Problem
Heat from inside your home infiltrates into the attic, warming the underside of the roof causing snow and ice to melt and refreeze as it runs off your roof. Ice then builds up in the form of ice dams, causing weight and water damage to the roof.

Solution
Inspection of insulation and air leakage in the attic allows us to make proper air sealing and insulation recommendations
